When You Dont Want To Do P90X
P90X is based around hour long exercises that burn about 600 hundred calories. The nutrition guide is based on consuming an extra 600 hundred calories a day unless you are trying to lose weight then you will consume less. The great thing about P90X that you can do every workout in your home without much equipment the, worst thing about P90x is that you can do every workout in your home without much equipment because let’s face it if you’re like me you get bored. I like using workout machines sometimes I like working out in different places and even though you get a pretty good variety of workouts with P90X It nice to have a large variety of workouts to do. This is especial important to those of you who have are done their first 90 days. So how can you branch out and do something different. Here are five alternative workouts that should meet the calorie requirements and should provided a good total body workout.
Take a self defense class I would suggest a class that does Mixed Martial Arts or Krav Maga. From my experience these two types of classes tend to be intense and they also give you a chance to actually get in and spare with someone right away without spending several months learning techniques in slow motion. In Mixed martial arts you will be doing some type of grappling usually Brazilian jujitsu. You will also be doing some type of a striking many times this is Muay Thai kick boxing. Between these to types of training you will get the perfect chest, back, legs and arms workout. Krava Maga is not a sport type martial art it is a practical self defense classes. The teach being in shape, using your natural instincts to your advantage and the teach aggression which I think is the most important part. I think in our civilized culture we are taught not to be aggressive and that we should be passive. In a true self defense situation passiveness could get you killed. So be aggressive and Try these instead of P90X
Rock climbing, now before you complain about living in Middle America with no mountains anywhere rock climbing is probably closer than you think. I live in Michigan which is as flat as flat can be but there are two really great climbing gyms within 10 to 40 minutes away. With the growth of the sport there should be a rock gym nearby. In a climbing gym you can be certified to climb in a short one hour class or you can do what is called bouldering, this is just traversing lower to the ground with out the need for a rope. Rock climbing is a great arms, abs, back and leg workouts. Rock climbing is a good P90x alternative because while you are climbing you are using brute strength as well as balance and core strength.
This next one might not be easier as the other two but it does provide a great workout. Chopping fire wood. As far as a workout goes I would suggest that you spend half your time chopping wood and then 30 min stacking it so that you get a muscle workout and a cardio workout plus you can probably save some money in the winter by burning wood instead of gas.
Swimming is in my opinion that perfect workout. It involves almost every muscle group without the high impact of lifting weights or doing a polymeric type workout. All you need is a swim suit and a good pair of goggles. I would suggest that you get a little bit of instruction not because you need it to get a good workout because I think you could just run through the water and get a great workout, but I think that it is more fun to have good form and be able to put more laps in.
This is one of my personal favorites play with a kid. I know what you’re thinking how on earth are you going to get a great workout with yours or someone else’s kids but trust me try and copy every move they make every time they squat you squat. Every time they run somewhere run after them every times they roll on the floor you do the same and if you don’t think that after 2 or 3 hours of playing you haven’t burned 600 calories than I would say you weren’t playing hard enough.
So find something fun to do and burn 600 calories the point is to keep moving and keep motivated.

Why P90X Sucks
Why P90X Sucks.
If you have read my other posts you probably have realized that I like the P90X system but I would be lying if I told you it was perfect so if you will allow me I would like to tell you everything wrong with Tony Horton and the rest of the P90X group.
For starters these are really hard workouts . For the first 3 week you pretty much get pushed to your limit everyday and when I say everyday I mean everyday. It is a huge challenge to work out 6 days a week.
The nutrition guide can really suck for the fat shredder portion. When you are accustomed to eating whatever you want whenever you want its tough to switch. To me this part of P90X is harder than the workouts. I want my large cookie dough blizzard. I don’t like measuring out my foods or writing down how much I ate. I just don’t want to change. I want to eat everything that tastes good and I want to eat when I am bored. P90X sucks
P90X is not for everyone. There is a fitness test that you should be able to do prior to starting P90X.
You should be able to perform the following
Pull-ups 3 for guys 1 for girls
Push-ups 15 for guys 3 for girls or 15 for girls on their knees
Wall squat for one minute for both ladies and gentlemen
Curls at least Guys 10 reps with 20lb and Girls 10 reps with 8lb
In and Outs 25 minimum
Finish 2 minutes of jumping jacks with a 30 second sprint at the end.
If you can do the minimums you should be able to do P90X. If you cant you can still do it but just plan on taking longer in every phase. So for you it might be P120X or something like that. Your other options are to do one of beachbody’s other great workouts like Power 90 or Slim in 6. I personally know people who have had great results sticking with Power 90 who have no desire to step up to P90X. As far as I am concerned that is just fine. P90X is defiantly not for everyone. If you have knee, shoulder, or back problems you really need to listen to your body and not push it. You might not be able to do every exercise or you might have to modify that particular move.
So you see P90X sucks. You have to work hard. You have to eat right. You have to push yourself. I want a magic pill that takes away all my fat. I want a machine that in as little as two and a half minutes I can get a full body workout, and I want someone else to make me do it.

P90X support
To use the doorway analogy again if the P90x workouts are the doorway to a better physical life, and nutrition is the key that unlocks the door then, the Beachbody support system helps to turn the key and walk through the door. One of the down sides of working out at home with DVDs is there is no accountability there is not a fitness instructor there to tell you to push it. If you decide to stay in your pajamas instead of doing Legs and Back no one is going to know. So P90X and its parent company Beachbody have gone to great lengths to give you every tool to stay motivated and accountable.
When you get your little cardboard box in the mail you will open it up and find all kinds of things in side. All these are designed to keep you motivated to work out and eat right. There is a home fitness guide that will teach the philosophy of the P90X system it will teach you about the concept of muscle confusion, it will emphasize the importants of rest days in order to let your body grow into a well oiled machine. You will be taught how to eat, what to eat, when to eat. One thing that I really like about the P90X system is how it stresses keeping track of everything you do. Every workout you are encouraged to write down how many reps you did and at what weights. From the beginning they have you do a fitness test that includes everything from how high you can jump, to how many push-ups you can do, to what your waist size is, and weather you can touch your toes or not. They also have you take a picture so you can see the changes 90 days later. The Nutrition guide strongly encourages you to write down what you eat and how much.
Besides helping you keep yourself accountable you are given access to a whole online community of others going through the same journey. If you get online you can log in and let the world know you are about to do plyometrics or whatever part of your body you are about to punish. You can get on forums and chats about how much you hate Ab-ripper X. You actually feel like part of a community. The really cool thing is that every day when you log in to do your workouts they giveaway a prize and I am not just talking about key chains and t-shirts they give away great thing like money. You are also assigned a Beachbody coach. These are not certified fitness instructors but most have at least done the whole 90 days and can give you some advice and maybe they can give you a kick in the pants if you have been slacking off.
So all in all Beachbody, Tony Horton, and P90X have put together a great set of tools help you reach you physical goals.
